Sierra Pallet

From pallet requirements to a useful inquiry.

A Reno supplier’s redesign brings product information, quote requests, and reliable inquiry delivery together.

Buyers arrive with a load, a deadline, and questions.

My role: Website strategy, content, design, PHP development, technical SEO, and inquiry-delivery troubleshooting.

Launched October 13, 2026. Postlaunch homepage testing recorded 98–100 for mobile performance and 98 for desktop performance in Google PageSpeed Insights.

Sierra Pallet supplies commercial customers throughout Northern and Central Nevada from its Reno operation. A manufacturer ordering recurring supply, a broker sourcing pallets for a customer, and a business asking about used-pallet pickup need different information.

The existing WordPress site introduced the company and its pallet types, but the next step was often a generic contact form. Product information, broker support, and buyback services needed clearer paths. The redesign focused on helping a buyer assess fit and start a useful conversation without already knowing every specification.

My work combined website design and redevelopment with content structure, local search foundations, and the less visible work of making sure an inquiry actually reached the business.

Stronger performance, measured after launch.

The redesigned homepage scored 98–100 for mobile performance and 98 for desktop performance in Google PageSpeed Insights, up from 59 and 70 in the original site’s audit.

Mobile performance

59 → 98–100 out of 100

The largest visible content element appeared in 1.4–1.8 seconds in mobile testing.

Desktop performance

70 → 98 out of 100

The largest visible content element appeared in approximately 0.4 seconds in desktop testing.

Accessibility checks

Mobile: 62 → 96 · Desktop: 67 → 96

Automated accessibility scores improved to 96 on both mobile and desktop.

Best Practices and SEO checks

Best Practices: 92 → 100 · SEO: 85 → 100

The redesigned homepage earned full marks for best practices and technical SEO checks on both mobile and desktop.

Make the offer and the next step visible.

The new opening pairs pallet imagery with a direct supply message, a product overview, and two clear choices: request a quote or explore pallet solutions.

Redesign · Product context and both next steps sit alongside the imagery.

The charcoal split hero developed through client feedback. The aim was a practical industrial presentation with a stronger reading order: who the company helps, what it supplies, and how to move forward. Further down, the page connects common supply problems to product options and broker support.

Regional content distinguishes direct service across Northern and Central Nevada from partner-supported requirements beyond that area. This local SEO work gives buyers clear service-area information and connects the company’s products to the region it serves.

Organize around the buyer’s requirement.

The product page became a guide to available options, with direct section links and routes for customers who need more than a standard pallet.

Redesign · An introductory overview and product navigation establish the choices before the detailed sections.

New, used and reconditioned, custom, heat-treated export, and plastic pallets have distinct buyer considerations. The revised content explains those options and includes custom crates, rather than expecting every visitor to interpret a list of product names.

Broker support and pallet buyback also have their own visible navigation routes. A buyer ordering supply, a broker coordinating fulfillment, and someone asking about surplus pallets can enter the conversation from a relevant page.

Page-specific titles, descriptions, canonical URLs, structured data, and an XML sitemap strengthen the site’s technical SEO foundations and help search engines understand its products and service areas.

Ask for useful details without demanding a finished specification.

The final form keeps the fields manageable and uses examples to help commercial buyers describe the request.

Original contact form asking for name email phone subject and message
Before · Cropped form view. A general subject and message provided little guidance about a pallet inquiry.
Redesigned quote form with company contact details and guidance on pallet requirements
Redesign · Cropped form view. Company and contact fields sit alongside guidance on quantities, timing, and delivery requirements.

The form asks what the buyer needs, their company and contact information, and a request description. Phone is optional. Prompts suggest pallet size or type, quantity, location, timing, and special requirements; the accompanying guidance makes clear that unknown specifications do not prevent an inquiry.

That balance matters. A long list of mandatory technical fields can make a first conversation harder, while an entirely open message box can leave the team without essential context. The final revision uses a short form with practical guidance.

A completed form still needs a working delivery path.

Testing uncovered a separate inquiry-delivery issue. I investigated the hosting and email configuration, corrected the routing, and completed email-authentication setup. A subsequent authentication check passed, and on October 8, 2026, the client confirmed that an end-to-end test submission arrived in the intended inbox.

The check followed the inquiry all the way to the recipient’s inbox, confirming that the team could receive and respond to the request.

Put the decision before the long scroll.

At the same mobile viewport, the original opening is dominated by stacked photographs. The redesign brings the supply message and both main actions into the opening view.

A focused implementation on the existing host.

The redesign replaces WordPress with a custom PHP website on Sierra Pallet’s existing Bluehost hosting. Shared templates keep page structure consistent and make content updates straightforward, with a quote experience tailored to the business.

  • Form protection: Cloudflare Turnstile responses are verified on the server, supported by input validation and additional submission checks.
  • Accessible form structure: Labels, required-field explanations, grouped contact information, and error handling support a more understandable request process.
  • Image delivery: Optimized WebP assets and explicit image dimensions support the new layouts without relying on large original photo files.
  • Controlled launch: A separate password-protected review environment and backups of the original WordPress files and database supported testing and preparation for deployment.

What the project delivered

The launched redesign brings together clearer product and service paths, a quote form tailored to commercial buyers, stronger PageSpeed results, and an inquiry-delivery repair confirmed through recipient-side testing.

The lesson for another local business is straightforward: the visible website and the operational handoff both deserve attention. Clearer content helps buyers decide what to ask; reliable inquiry delivery makes that next step useful to the business.

In the client’s words.

“Chris came to my office and did a tour of my facility and we talked about the things I wanted and I didn't want and he recommended things I definitely should have and the website launched beautifully […] and I'm very happy with his work”
